In a large mixing bowl, combine the miniature marshmallows, shredded coconut, mandarin orange segments, fresh pineapple chunks, and halved grapes.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream, whipped cream (or Cool Whip), and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
Gently fold the cream mixture into the fruit and marshmallow mixture until everything is evenly coated.
If you’re using nuts, fold them in at this stage for an extra crunch.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld and the salad to chill.
When ready to serve, scoop the salad into individual bowls or a large serving dish.
Garnish with maraschino cherries on top and a sprinkle of extra coconut if desired.
