1. Unsalted Butter: The foundation of any great brownie starts with butter. Unsalted butter is preferred because it allows for better control over the overall saltiness of the dessert. It also contributes to the rich flavor and fudgy texture that brownies are known for.

Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Blackberry Cream Cheese Swirl:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup fresh blackberries (or frozen, thawed and drained)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon sugar (for the blackberries)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Prepare the Blackberry Mixture:

      - In a bowl, mash the blackberries with a fork. Mix with the lemon juice and tablespoon of sugar. Set aside while preparing the cream cheese mixture.

        - In another bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.

          Make the Brownie Batter:

            - In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar.

              - Once slightly cooled, add the eggs one at a time, stirring after each addition to combine well. Mix in the vanilla extract.

                - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

                  Create the Swirl:

                    - Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.

                      - Dollop the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter using a spoon. Then, dollop the blackberry mixture on top of the cream cheese.

                        - Carefully spoon the remaining brownie batter over the tops of the cream cheese and blackberry dollops.

                          Swirl and Bake:

                            - Using a knife or skewer, gently swirl the layers together in a figure-eight motion to create marbled patterns without completely mixing them.

                              - Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are fine).

                                Cool and Serve:

                                  - Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares. For best results, refrigerate for a couple of hours (or overnight) before slicing for cleaner edges.
