Ingredients

1 lb mostaccioli (or penne pasta)

2 tbsp olive oil

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 lb ground beef (or turkey)

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

1 can (15 oz) ricotta cheese

1 egg

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the mostaccioli and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add the ground beef, cooking until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Combine with Marinara: Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Mix the Ricotta: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Stir until smooth and well mixed.

Assembly: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked mostaccioli with the meat sauce. Add the ricotta mixture and gently mix until everything is well incorporated.

Layer in the Baking Dish: Spread half of the mostaccioli mixture in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella over it. Add the remaining mostaccioli mixture on top, and finish by topping it with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let the dish sit for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley.
