Ingredients

4 ripe bananas, peeled and halved lengthwise

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup banana liqueur (optional)

1/4 cup dark rum

Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Chopped pecans or walnuts, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Once melted, add the brown sugar and cinnamon. Stir continuously until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is thick and bubbly.

Carefully add the banana liqueur (if using) and stir to combine.

Add the bananas to the skillet, cut side down. Cook for 1-2 minutes until they start to soften.

Gently flip the bananas, allowing them to cook for another 1-2 minutes on the other side.

Remove the skillet from heat and carefully add the dark rum. If you're feeling adventurous, you can ignite the rum with a long lighter for flambé (note: be cautious when doing this!).

Allow the flames to subside as the alcohol burns off, then gently spoon the sauce over the bananas.

Serve immediately over scoops of vanilla ice cream, and sprinkle with chopped nuts if desired.
