Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas, applesauce, honey (or maple syrup), eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well until all ingredients are smoothly incorporated.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Make sure there are no lumps in the flour.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if the batter is slightly lumpy.

Add Extras: If you’re using nuts or chocolate chips, fold them into the batter at this stage.

Pour & Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top with a spatula and, if desired, sprinkle a few extra walnuts or chocolate chips on top for decoration.

Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, with a few moist crumbs attached.

Cool Down: Once baked, remove the banana bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Slice the banana bread and enjoy it warm or at room temperature. It can be stored in an airtight container for several days or frozen for longer storage.
