Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup warm water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup dark chocolate chips

1/2 cup heavy cream (for ganache)

4 oz dark chocolate (for ganache)

Optional: chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for decoration

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, warm water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in chocolate: Gently fold in the semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips.

Pour batter: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Bake: Place in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Prepare ganache: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat, add the dark chocolate, and let it sit for 3-5 minutes. Stir until smooth.

Assemble the cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of ganache on top, then add the second layer. Pour the remaining ganache over the top and sides of the cake, allowing it to drip down the edges.

Decorate: Optional - sprinkle chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder on top.

Serve: Slice and enjoy your mouthwatering Death by Chocolate Cake!
