Ingredients

1 pound baby bella mushrooms, cleaned and stems trimmed

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional for umami flavor)

Juice of half a lemon

Instructions

Prep the Mushrooms: Clean the mushrooms under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. Remove the stems if they are tough or woody, but leave the caps whole for presentation.

Melt the Butter: In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until it starts to foam but not brown.

Sauté the Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Cook the Mushrooms: Add the mushrooms to the skillet, ensuring they’re in a single layer. Cook without stirring for about 5 minutes, allowing the mushrooms to brown on one side.

Season and Flip: Season with salt, black pepper, and fresh thyme. Stir gently and flip the mushrooms to cook on the other side for another 5 minutes.

Add Umami Flavor (optional): If using, drizzle in the soy sauce and mix well. Continue cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the mushrooms to absorb the flavor.

Finish with Lemon and Parsley: Remove the skillet from heat. Squeeze the juice of half a lemon over the mushrooms and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley.

Serve: Serve hot as a side dish to steak or with crusty bread to soak up all that delicious garlic butter.
